Glaucoma:The presence of this medication in the bloodstream may lead to an increase in intraocular pressure, which may result in cataracts. This effect has been linked to ocular symptoms such as blurred vision, changes in color perception, and changes in the balance of oestrogen and progesterone at the cellular level, resulting in ocular surface inflammation.
Glaucoma medications:There are several types of drugs used to treat ophthalmic oedema, including olanzapine (Zyprexa), olanzapine extended-release (Zyvox), quetiapine (Seroquel), risperidone (Risperdal), and zolpidem (Zyban). These medications are not approved for use in the United States.
Liver function:There is some evidence that these medications may affect liver function. This may result in an increase in liver enzymes (which may be a sign of an underlying liver problem), which may further increase the risk of liver damage.
Neurological disorders:Certain medications used to treat psychiatric disorders (such as medications used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) may cause sedation, and this can lead to drowsiness, which may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding:This medication should be used with caution in pregnancy because the risk of adverse effects is very small. If your baby is pregnant or nursing, discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of using this medication during pregnancy.
